Whitebeam (GB)
gr f Caravaggio - Sleep Walk (Oasis Dream)
Chad Brown
Whitebeam made her debut as a three-year-old for trainers Roger and Harry Charlton . Third on debut in April, she then put together a series of three wins before achieving her first blacktype next time out, with second place in the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Newmaket. She ran one more time in her three-year-old year before crossing the Atlantic to make the switch to US trainer Chad Brown.
On her first run out as a four-year-old and her US debut, she came a close second in the Listed Plenty Of Grace Stakes at Aqueduct (16th April). Her first American success came in the Gr.3 Gallorette Stakes over a mile and a half at Pimlico. Tracking the leader on the rail she was pulled out in the straight to lead, extending in the final furlong to win easily by two and a half lengths.
Trainer Chad Brown commented: "She's trained super since she came in to me over the winter from Juddmonte. I think getting on the faster, firmer turf is really going to be beneficial for her. She just loved it out there today."
Whitebeam went into the Gr.1 Diana Stakes in July as the longest-priced runner of a Chad Brown-trained quartet. Drawn widest of all she raced on the outside in third before setting her sights on stablemate, and race favourite, In Italian in the home stretch. A long drive saw her get up by the slimmest of margins to give Chad Brown a one-two finish. She returned to Saratoga a year later to defend her crown, producing a text-book front-running ride. She resisted the pressure from her challengers to win by three-quarters of a length.
Whitebeam is the third foal out of Oasis Dream mare Sleep Walk and her first Graded winner. Her dam is a half-sister to St Leger winner Logician (Frankel), triple Graded winner Suffused and a further two stakes performers in Collide and Battlement.
