Tilsit, whose dam Multilingual is a half-sister to Kingman, did not run as a juvenile, but it did not take him long to make his mark at three. Runner-up on his racecourse debut at Newcastle, the Charlie Hills-trained colt won a Novice contest at the same track three weeks later, before landing the Gr.3 Thoroughbred Stakes during Goodwood's Glorious meeting.

Tilsit made his 2021 debut at the Saudi Cup meeting in Riyadh, where he ran fifth in the Neom Turf Cup. His next start in the Gr.1 Prix d'Ispahan at ParisLongchamp saw him battle gamely to the lead only to be headed just before the line by multiple Group winner Skaletti. His next start saw him best a number of more seasoned campaigners to capture the Gr.2 Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot by a three-quarter length winning margin.
