Surefire started his career in the UK with trainer Ralph Beckett. He broke his maiden in December of his two-year-old season in a Newcastle novice stakes.
He opened his three-year-old season with a second place place finish at Windsor before winning two successive races, the last one being the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Surefire then transferred to Australian trainer Chris Waller in September 2021. His first run in Australia saw him run out the narrow runner-up in the Gr.3 Queen's Cup at Rosehill Gardens in March 2022. Racing regularly in Group company his next blacktype result came on the Gr.3 Geelong Cup where he placed second behind Emissary.
He was then aimed at the Gr.3 Archer Stakes at Flemington where he achieved his Group-level breakthrough, beating 2020 Gr.1 Derby winner Serpentine by a length for the win.
His next win came at Randwick in April 2023 where he beat his rivals by a quarter length to take the Gr.2 Chairman's Quality.
