Sunly (GB)
ch f Night Of Thunder - Suffused (Champs Elysees)
Francis-Henri Graffard
Sunly made her debut as a three-year-old at ParisLongchamp on 6th April, one of four winners for her trainer Françis-Henri Graffard that day. She picked up in the final 200 metres, extending clear to win by three lengths. Graffard commented: "She has not yet come into her coat but she was very serious. Christophe Soumillon was satisfied because when he asked her to speed up, she picked up beautifully. She really needs to come on physically and is not not yet fully out of winter.”
She returned to ParisLongchamp for her next start a month later in the Listed Prix de la Seine, again settling comfortably before powering into the lead in the straight, this time winning by two and a half lengths.
After the race Françis-Henri Graffard said: "Sunly had come on a lot from her first run, but she has not fully bloomed yet so it was most encouraging to win again. Christophe [Soumillon] felt that the rain-softened ground didn't help and that faster ground would be to her liking. He is also convinced that one-and-a-half miles will be her best trip."
Sunly is the fourth of six foals, out of multiple Graded-winning Gr.1 E P Taylor Stakes second Suffused, herself a half-sister to four stakes performers including Gr.1 St Leger winner Logician (Frankel). Suffused is also a half-sister to the dam of dual Gr.1 Diana Stakes heroine Whitebeam while her stakes-placed dam Scuffle is a half-sister to sires Cityscape and Bated Breath (Dansili).
