Spiced Up debuted with a fifth place finish at Churchill Downs on the dirt in September of his juvenile year. He ran one more time on the Churchill Downs dirt before the end of the season.
His three-year-old seasonal debut saw him switched to the turf, where he claimed his maiden win over six furlongs at Aqueduct. He then went on to Saratoga in August of that year, where he produced a late rally down the home straight to win the Gr.3 Mahony Stakes over five and a half furlongs.
