Segesta (USA)

b f Ghostzapper - Antonoe (First Defence)

Date of birth:17th February 2021
Trained by:

Chad Brown

Segesta made her debut as a three-year-old in early 2024 at Gulfstream Park finishing unplaced. Her next run out, this time at Tampa Bay in March, saw her finish as runner -up, beaten only by a neck. She quickly followed this up with  her maiden win over a mile at Keeneland in April.

She stepped up to Graded company in May, taking a half-length victory in the Gr.2 Wonder Again Stakes at Aqueduct. Her win earned her an automatic place in the Gr.1 Belmont Oaks Invitational at Aqueduct on 6th July. The Belmont Oaks saw her run a close second to European raider Cinderella's Dream.

Her 2025 season kicked off with two unplaced finishes in the Gr.3 Modesty Stakes and Gr.1 Just A Game Stakes at Churchill Downs and Saratoga respectively. She returned to the winner's circle in July with victory in the Gr.3 Matchmaker Stakes at Saratoga - a sixth consecutive win in the race for trainer Chad Brown. Always with the pacesetter No Mo Candy throughout the race, she made her move around the final turn, passing that horse and holding off a fast-finishing Sacred Wish to win by a neck.

Segesta capped her season on a high with a powerful run in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar on 30th November. Segesta was allowed to settle in fourth through the initial splits. With In Our Time still cruising along up front through a half in :48.06, the Juddmonte homebred was in perfect striking position - three lengths behind the leader - exiting the far turn. The favorite's pilot, Flavien Prat, asked for another gear and got it approaching the quarter pole as the bay extended her stride to reel in the hard-trying leaders turning for home. In full down the stretch, Segesta proved too much for her rivals, crossing the wire three lengths ahead of In Our Time, who edged Ag Bullet at the wire.

Segesta is the third foal, and first stakes winner out of Gr.1 Just A Game Stakes winner Antonoe.
