Pocket Square ran three times as a two-year-old in 2019. Third on debut in August, she picked up a Maiden in September at Ascot, drawing clear to win comfortably by three-and-a-quarter lengths. The filly achieved her first blacktype next time out, winning the Gr.3 Prix des Reservoirs at Deauville in good style, despite the soft ground not being her ideal.
“That was impressive," said trainer Roger Charlton's son and assistant Harry. "We didn't know if she would go on the ground but she did. Mickael [Barzalona] said she is so laid-back she wastes no energy. She does what you want, she quickens when you want.
“She has got an incredible mind and is absolutely horizontal. She just goes about her business in such a good way.”
Following a disappointing return in the Gr.3 Musidora Stakes at York in July 2020, Pocket Square transferred to the USA to the stables of Chad Brown. Her American debut, in an allowance race at Keeneland in April 2021, was a winning one with a two and a quarter winning margin at the line. She chalked up another win in an allowance race at Saratoga in August before posting a two and a half-length victory in the Gr.3 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park at the end of September 2021 to give trainer Chad Brown his 100th Graded stakes win at the track.
