Lead Artist (GB)
b c Dubawi - Obligate (Frankel)
John & Thady Gosden
Lead Artist began his career in April of his three-year-old season, and was narrowly beaten into second place on his debut run over a mile at Newmarket. On his next racecourse outing, this time at York, he broke his maiden, powering clear of the field to win by four and three-quarter lengths.
His next run saw him earn his first blacktype, placing third in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket's July course on the 11th July. He followed this up a month later with smart performance at Goodwood to win the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes on fast ground. He went on to be runner-up to multiple Group 1 winner Kinross in the Park Stakes at Doncaster over seven furlongs in September before claiming another Group-level win in the Gr.3 Darley Stakes at Newmarket. This was his first attempt over a mile and he asserted himself well to beat the Cambridgeshire winner Liberty Lane by a length and a half. He stepped up in trip again for the 10-furlong Gr.2 Bahrain International Trophy in November of his three-year-old season and ran out the runner -up behind Spirit Dancer, a son of Frankel.
Lead Artist's four-year-old campaign began at Sandown in April 2025 with a run in the Gr.2 Sandown Mile but the watered track did not suit him and he finished down the field. Three weeks later, the good to firm conditions for the Gr.1 Locking Stakes at Newbury, played to his strengths. He was well placed to strike behind the leaders and fought back from being headed by Dancing Gemini in the final furlong to win his first top-level race by a neck.
By Dubawi, Lead Artist is the first foal out of Group 2 Prix de Sandringham winner Obligate (Frankel), a granddaughter of Juddmonte's blue hen Hasili.
