Laurel (GB)

b f Kingman - Promising Lead (Danehill)

Date of birth:24th February 2019
Trained by:

John & Thady Gosden

Laurel was unraced at two but won on her three-year-old debut at Newmarket in July 2022. She quickened clear in really good style after squeezing through on the rail in what was a very encouraging performance.

Her next outing in a fillies' novice stakes at Kempton saw her produce an impressive display, surging to take the lead a furlong out, quickening clear to reach the line with a two furlong margin. The performance earned her a TDN 'Rising Star' tag.

Less than a fortnight later she was supplemented for the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. Despite a big leap in class, she acquitted herself well, accelerating into the lead after the two furlong marker, but she was unable to deny her more experienced rival Fonteyn, who won by three quarters of a length.

Laurel made her four-year-old seasonal debut in April 2023, producing a dominant performance to win the Listed Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at Kempton Park for her first blacktype win.

Laurel is out of Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Promising Lead and is a half-sister to five winners but is the first stakes winner and Group performer for her dam.
