Repel lands stakes breakthrough

In yesterday's eight furlong Listed Prix la Sollerina at Mont-de-Marsan, Juddmonte's homebred Repel was well positioned to strike under Clement Lecoeuvre.

The Francis-Henri Graffard-trained three-year-old raced at the rear as Al Shira'aa Racing's homebred Wild Pacific raced at the head of affairs, bringing the eight runners along. The tempo of the race soon began to lift on entering the home straight and Repel found herself outpaced. With most of the runners heading over towards the stands' side rail, Graffard's charge elected to come home down the centre of the racetrack and she responded generously under pressure. She pulled a length and a half clear from Hugo Palmer's English raider Blingy's Sister at the line, whilst Wild Pacific had to settle for third place, beaten a short neck.

Beaten on her debut as a two-year-old, Repel showed improvement on her next start and got off the mark. She then lined up in the 1400 metre Gr.3 Prix Imprudence at Deauville on her seasonal debut and was beaten into fifth place, before returning to the winner's enclosure on her next start. This was a maiden stakes breakthrough for the grey filly. She is a half-sister to the two-time winner and dual Listed-placed Crenelle (Kingman) and two other winners out of the three-time winner and Listed-placed Dansili mare Battlement, a half-sister to the Classic-winning sire Logician (Frankel), the three-time Gr.3 winner Suffused (dam of the dual Gr.3 winner and Gr.1-placed Sunly), the Gr.3 Gordon Richards Stakes winner Okeechobee and the Listed winner Collide (also by Frankel). It is the further family of the Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Estrange and the Gr.1- winning sires Cityscape and Bated Breath (Dansili).
