Last year's Gr.1 Sussex Stakes hero Qirat made all for a clear-cut victory in Saturday's Gr.2 Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein.

Juddmonte's five-year-old gelding, whose lone victory in ten starts since the Sussex Stakes came in June's Gr.3 Criterion at York, was away swiftly and seized an immediate advantage. The 58-5 chance was unflustered on the lead until coming under pressure approaching the final quarter-mile and never looked in serious danger thereafter, maintaining a relentless tempo up front to prevail by two and a half lengths and a head from Quddwah (Kingman) and Siciliano.
"Going back up to a mile from seven furlongs helped him," said winning rider Silvestre De Sousa. "They've done a great job with the ground here. It's on the slow side and it suited the horse. Over the sharp mile I thought we'd jump off, give him a breather and go again."
Qirat is the sixth of 10 foals out of Gr.1 Matron Stakes heroine Emulous (Dansili), herself a full-sister to G3 Prix Gontaut-Biron victor First Sitting and Listed Criterium de Vitesse winner Daring Diva. Daring Diva, in turn, is the dam of three blacktype performers headed by Gr.2 Ridgewood Pearl and Gr.3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Stakes victrix Brooch (Empire Maker), herself the dam of Gr.1 Haskell Stakes hero and upgraded Gr.1 Kentucky Derby runner-up Mandaloun. The winner is a half-brother to multiple Group 1-winning Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Bluestocking, two-year-old filly Volley (Frankel) and a weanling filly by Camelot.
