An even-money favourite for Saturday's Gr.3 September Stakes at Kempton, Kalpana proved the market was right with a command performance to register a first pattern race success.

Last seen winning Hamilton's Listed Glasgow Stakes in July, the Andrew Balding-trained even-money favourite followed the pace before moving menacingly to Lion's Pride passing the two-furlong marker and into the clear. At the line, the homebred who had been third in Royal Ascot's Gr.2 Ribblesdale Stakes in June had four and three-quarter lengths to spare over that rival with jockey P J McDonald suitably impressed.
"I think she's still a bit green and raw and I think she will continue to improve with time and age - I'd be very excited about her," he said. "This filly has so much more improvement to give. I think the sky is the limit for her, to be honest. It was very smooth, I was always in control and I felt at every stage of the race I was doing things easily. She galloped out to the line so well."
Kalpana's dam is the Listed Prix Petite Etoile winner Zero Gravity (Dansili), a full sister to the operation's Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris hero Zambezi Sun and the Listed-placed dam of three stakes performers headed by the Gr.3 Athenia Stakes winner Pocket Square.
