Group triumph for Red Letter in the Snow Fairy Stakes

Juddmonte and Ger Lyons earned a Gr.3 victory at the Curragh on 30th August when Red Letter (Frankel) got the better of six rivals to land the Gr.3 Snow Fairy Fillies Stakes over nine furlongs.

With the field stringing out, she ran in mid-division before receiving encouragement as the home straight beckoned. She had to fight hard to break past Sand Gazelle (also by Frankel) and Barnavara, but did so just in time to get the better of the former by a length and a half, with the latter finishing a length and three quarters further back in third.

Now a three-time winner, she went into yesterday’s outing off the back of a Listed triumph at Killarney. Perhaps this Group level title will provide some confidence should she opt to re-enter Gr.1 waters. Her first start at that level, in last year’s Moyglare Stud Stakes, saw her finish fourth of five runners, while a run in the 1000 Guineas yielded seventh, two and three quarter lengths off the winner.

She is the first winner from two runners out of the dual winner and Listed Chelmer Fillies’ Stakes-placed Red Impression and holds entries in three contests next month, namely the Gr.1 C Matron Stakes, the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes and the Gr.3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies’ Stakes.
