Grade 2 victory for Set Piece

Set Piece (Dansili) collected his second Graded win in the Gr.2 Dinner Party Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 22nd May 2022:

Set Piece, winner of last term's Gr.2 Wise Dan Stakes and runner-up in the Gr.1 Fourstardave Handicap, turned in an impressive rally from the back to secure his second career graded stakes victory.

Sixth of seven as Atone led through the early fractions , the 2-1 favourite traveled kindly on the far turn, came rolling five wide into the stretch and rallied down the centre of the track to mow them down.

Set Piece entered off a pair of seventh-place finishes. He closed out his 2021 campaign with a disappointing effort as the favorite in the Gr.1 Woodbine Mile Stakes and kicked off his six-year-old season by beating only one home while defeated by just two lengths in the Gr.1 Maker's Mark Mile Stakes.

"We were looking to settle today," winning trainer Brad Cox said. "Last time at Keeneland, we didn't settle off the layoff. I don't know if that was him being fresh off the layoff or what it was. But he did settle today, and that had a lot to do with him having a really good closing kick. Florent [Geroux] did a great job."

Cox added: "He's a good horse. He's a gelding, but our goal is definitely to try to get a Grade 1 win at some point in his career. I just think it would be neat for him and obviously for Juddmonte."
