Flaming Stone becomes a new stakes winner for Kingman

Three-year-old Kingman filly Flaming Stone won the Listed Prix La Camargo at Saint-Cloud yesterday (16th March) on her first run for trainer Henri-Francois Devin.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 17th March 2025:

Flaming Stone prevailed in one of four juvenile efforts for the Andrew Balding stable last term and also ran third in Sandown's Listed Star Stakes (25th July) and fourth in Newmarket's Gr.3 Sweet Solera Stakes (10th August) last time. Positioned fifth until slipping one spot at halfway in this first outing for the Henri-Francois Devin yard, she made relentless head once into the home straight to go third passing the furlong pole and was unstoppable under continued urging to assert superiority nearing the line.

"I am lucky to have received this filly, she displayed a good level of form in England and was training smartly," said Devin. "She was well relaxed and had a good trip. According to her jockey [Alexis Pouchin], she needed some time to find her best stride in the straight, but quickened well once she did and maybe there is some room for improvement. I will talk to [Juddmonte's] Barry Mahon and we will decide in time where to go next. She is not in the [Gr.1] Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, but there are plenty of opportunities."

Flaming Stone is the fifth of six foals and second stakes scorer out of a half-sister to Group 3-winning Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas third Blue De Vega and Listed Prix Coronation placegetter Bionic Woman, the first being Gr.2 Premio Lydia Tesio and Gr.3 Pride Stakes victrix Angel Power. The February-foaled grey's second dam Burning Heights is a half-sister to Gr.3 Deutsches St Leger and Gr.3 St Leger Italiano victor Burma Gold and Listed Prix Finlande runner-up Burma Sea. Her third dam Bougainvillea is a full-sister to Gr.1
Deutsches Derby and Gr.1 Grosser Preis von Baden heroine Borgia as well as being kin to Gr.1 Deutsches Derby and Gr.1 Coronation Cup winner Boreal.
