First blacktype success for Kalpana

Three-year-old filly Kalpana, from the first crop of Study Of Man, ran out a classy winner of the listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park on Friday (19th July).

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 20th July 2024:

Trained by Andrew Balding, the Juddmonte homebred was winning for the third time in her career. She had scored on her debut in January and added a Newmarket handicap in April before finishing second in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes and third in the Gr.2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. She has never been out of the first three.

As such, she was sent off favourite under P J McDonald yesterday and she travelled well in second as Sea The Thunder (Kingman) cut out the running at an ordinary pace in the 1m3f contest. The five-runner field began to bunch on the run to the straight and were still tightly grouped until the pace quickened with three furlongs remaining. Kalpana was last off the bridle and, when McDonald said go at the two-furlong marker, she quickened clear in good style to win eased down by four and a half lengths from God’s Window, with Caviar Heights a further two lengths adrift in third.

Kalpana is out of the Listed Prix Petite Etoile winner Zero Gravity (Dansili), a full-sister to the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris victor and sire Zambezi Sun. Their grandam is the Gr.2 (then) Prix Maurice de Gheest winner and Gr.1 1,000 Guineas-placed Interval.
