2YO filly Fireline breaks her maiden at the second time of asking

Fireline (Arrogate) began to advance under her own power nearing the quarter pole before drawing off decisively in upper stretch.

The filly proved that her career debut fifth sprinting 6 1/2 panels in the slop Oct. 2 was a toss following an eye-catching 13 1/2-length score at Aqueduct Friday 4th November. Away from her outside draw to press the issue with favored Avant, who threw up an opening quarter in :24.02, the 9-5 second choice continued to shadow the frontrunner through a :47.75 half. Drawing on even terms with Avant entering the final turn, the grey was clear straightening for home, extended her advantage through the lane and was well clear of the closing Guns n' Graces at the wire. Final time for the 8-furlong test was 1:39.63.
