The 12-furlong Listed Orby Stakes was won in devastating fashion by the progressive Juddmonte homebred Purview (Kingman) for trainer Dermot Weld and jockey Colin Keane on Saturday.
Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 24th May 2026:
Travelling with enthusiasm for Keane, who settled the four-year-old colt in mid-division, he coasted into contention with ease. With each of his rivals hard at work, he was pulled to the outside and merely niggled along to take it up inside the two-furlong pole. Pushed out under hands and heels, he forged clear to win by an expanding six lengths. The favourite Trustyourinstinct attempted to follow him but didn’t have the same finishing kick, claiming second by a length and three-quarters from Arouet, who plugged on but never threatened.
Lightly-raced for his age, Purview made a winning debut in November at two and was not seen again until finishing second to Delacroix in the Gr.3 Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown. He made three more starts at three, including when second in the Gr.3 Meld Stakes and winning the Listed Navigation Stakes on his final start. Making a bright start to his four-year-old campaign, Weld mentioned the Gr.2 Hardwicke Stakes at next month’s Royal Meeting as a possible target, telling Racing TV: “He’s been a big immature colt. Throughout last year he progressed and I just took my time with him. He’s just filled into his big frame and he’s now delivering what I always hoped he would. We’ll review it with the owners and discuss it with Barry [Mahon, Racing Manager].”
He is out of the Sea The Stars mare Variable, who won the Listed Finale Stakes and is a half-sister to the Gr.3 World Trophy winner First Instinct (Bated Breath). His second dam is the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Proportional and the further family includes the prolific Gr.1 winner Romantic Warrior.
