Chaldean makes all to win the Champagne Stakes

Frankel two-year-old Chaldean made all the running to win the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster yesterday, his second Group win this season.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 12th September 2022:

His win provided trainer Andrew Balding with his first victory in the contest. Jumping smartly from stall one, the chesnut quickly built up and advantage of two lengths over his two rivals and, when Dettori shook him up over two furlongs out, he extended that advantage, as neither Indestructible or the odds-on favourite Silver Knott had an answer. Heavily eased close home, he ran out a three and a half-length winner over Indestructible in second, with Silver Knott finishing a disappointing last of three finishers, a further one and three quarter lengths back.

An encouraging fifth on debut over six furlongs at Newbury, Chaldean stepped up on that effort when stepped up to seven furlongs at the same track in July, where Silver Knott, who was making his racecourse debut, finished fourth. His next start was in went to York for the Gr.3 Acomb Stakes, where he pulled out more inside the final furlong to hold the renewed effort of Indestructible to win.
