A smart seasonal debut for Ottery

The four-year-old Dubawi filly returned to the track with a comfortable win in the Listed Prix Zarkava at ParisLongchamp on 7th April.

Last season's Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont winner Ottery hit the board in August's Gr.2 Prix de Pomone, but finished down the field in 10th on Arc weekend's Gr.1 Prix de Royallieu last time out. The 11-5 favourite was steadied to race behind the leaders in fourth after the opening exchanges of this seasonal return. Full of running when cruising closer in early straight, she powered forward for control approaching the final furlong and was driven out to prevail with an ultimately snug one-length buffer back to Legend.

André Fabre-trained Ottery is the third foal and scorer produced by Gr.2 Diana-Trial victrix and Gr.1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) third Longina, herself the leading performer out of Gr.3 Preis der Winterkonigin victrix Love Academy. The April-foaled chestnut, an 800,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 graduate was bred by Al Shahania Stud. Her third dam Laurencia produced Gr.2 Sky Classic victor and Gr.1 United Nations Stakes runner-up Lauro.
