Masen (GB)

b g Kingman - Continental Drift (Smart Strike)

Date of birth:13th March 2018
Trained by:

Chad Brown

Masen made a winning debut in July of his two-year-old season and made the step up to Group company on his next run in the Gr.3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown. Although a little green, he produced a solid performance to finish third within a length of the winner.

He made his three-year-old debut in August 2021 in the Listed Ruby Stakes at Killarney, posting a creditable second place finish behind the more experienced Horoscope. A win in a Premier Handicap over seven furlongs in September at Leopardstown set him up for a course and distance win in the Listed Knockaire Stakes just over a month later. Swiftly into his stride and in command throughout he finished with a two and a quarter length advantage over the runner-up.

Assistant trainer Shane Lyons commented: "It's a job well done, he's a work in progress and hopefully he'll have a nice winter and mature mentally. We're really looking forward to him next year, we think he's a proper horse in the making over seven [furlongs] or a mile."

Masen transferred to US trainer Chad Brown for his four-year-old season and his first race stateside saw him run a very close run second in the Gr.1 Maker's Mile Stakes at Keeneland's Spring Meet in April 2022. On his next outing he collected his first US blacktype win in the Seek Again Stakes at Belmont Park. He quickly backed this up a month later with a win in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes, again at Belmont Park.

By Kingman, Masen is the third foal out of Continental Drift, a winning daughter of multiple Group winner Intercontinental hailing from the family of Hasili.
