Three-year-old Elegant Verse put in a stakes-winning performance on her first start in France taking the Listed Prix Dirickx for trainer Henri Devin yesterday.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 6th September 2022:

Transferred from the Gosdens to Henri-François Devin following fifth placings in the Listed Abingdon Stakes at Newbury and Listed Chalice Stakes at Newmarket, the regally bred Elegant Verse was able to hit the ground running in France as she made her blacktype breakthrough. Ridden with an assurance regarding her stamina for this test, the homebred was kept close to the leader throughout before being committed at the top of the straight. Joined by Bellaciaociao there, the bay daughter of the operation's 1000 Guineas and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner kept finding against the stand's rail to earn the vital landmark.

Her dam, Special Duty, who was European champion two-year-old filly courtesy of her wins in the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes and Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin, occupies a unique position among dual Classic heroines after she was remarkably awarded both the Newmarket and Longchamp Guineas' in the stewards' room.
Responsible for the one blacktype performer in the  Listed-placed filly South Bank, she is the second dam of the Gr.3 Dwyer Stakes third Snow House. A half to Exemplify (Dansili), who later produced the Breeders' Cup Mile winning sire Expert Eye, her family features the multiple Grade 1 winners Sightseek and Tates Creek and the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret heroine Etoile Montante.
